VIKAR MAR
Vikar Mar (b. 1999) is a visual artist based in Hjalteyri, Eyjafjörður, whose practice centers on painting as a means of exploring materiality, repetition, and symbolism. Working primarily with acrylic on canvas, he also engages with found surfaces and locally sourced materials, embedding his surroundings directly into his work.
Vikar has presented multiple solo exhibitions and participated in group shows across Iceland. His Hjalteyri studio is frequently open to the public, functioning as both a working space and a site for dialogue—where works in progress and artistic process are shared openly with visitors.

Vikar Mar found a creative voice through self-directed learning. Being self-taught allows for a deeply personal and experimental approach to art-making, unbound by institutional constraints. This path encouraged him to explore diverse influences, develop unique techniques, and engage directly with their materials and ideas, fostering a distinctive and authentic practice.
